Jeff’s first encounter with ecommerce

Jeff always wanted to start his own business and work for himself. He’d worked in corporate America for his whole career, first as a police officer and then for an airline. Building the business

The margins weren’t super high, but at least he could get started. He quickly made a few sales which showed him that he was on the right track. After this initial success, he approached manufacturers directly and was able to negotiate higher margins.

Next, he had to also build his website. I’d never built a website before, and the one he put together was pretty basic. The course he was in gave him a good template to start with, so that was helpful. And after putting the website together, he dove into Google ads.

First sales

Once he got comfortable with Google ads, he started getting a decent amount of traffic to his website. Then the phone started ringing! So he was getting about three calls a day from prospective customers. It was an awesome feeling to finally have people interested in what he was selling.


Jeff learned quickly that most of his customers were government agencies. This was a major surprise, but it worked to his advantage because most of his sales were over $10,000! He’s been amazed at how well this is going. His first sale was only $77 but his next few sales brought in $26,000. Since then, he’s expanded his product line and now he has even more expensive items for sale. Among his records is how he did a $14,995 order. “Wow!!! In 4 days this month I did almost the same amount I did all last month.” – he shared on social media.

Plans for the future

He’s still working his day job too, which keeps him busy, but he doesn’t mind. He’s rearranged his schedule to make sure he can answer phone calls from customers right away, even if it means skipping lunch some days.
