Hi, please introduce yourself!

Hello! I am Miandra Delport, a 42-year-old mother of three teenage children.

A South African native, I relocated to New Zealand with my family seven years ago. My career has been diverse, from Occupational Therapy to event management and freelance styling for film shoots.

What sparked your interest in buying an ecommerce business?

The idea was introduced by a colleague about a year ago. I was initially put off by the technical aspects — building a website, running ads, and my lack of marketing or web design expertise.

I was also concerned about the quality of products from China, and the limited market potential in New Zealand due to its size. These concerns led me to drop the idea.

What made you reconsider buying an ecommerce business?

In my previous full-time role, I was working extremely long hours and was not satisfied. I desired a work-from-home opportunity. Just after I had resigned from my job, I discovered AliDropship through an Instagram ad.

I have been running the store since mid-October and the progress is promising.

My gross profit for November was around $6,400, with a net profit of about 18%. The store’s total revenue since mid-October stands at $10,274 from 239 sales. The average order value is $42.99.


The hours I dedicate to the business are quite low compared to the net profit. I spend about 30 minutes daily on managing the business and 2-3 hours one day a week on bookkeeping and marketing campaigns.

Promotion is clearly crucial as sales are directly linked to it. Research points towards video ads as the most effective tool for generating sales, as it allows potential customers to see the product in action. This is vital for ecommerce stores where customers cannot physically inspect the product.

Initially, the task of creating video ads deterred me from entering the ecommerce space. However, AliDropship makes it effortless, providing ready-made social media ad materials.

My current goal is not to generate enormous profits within the first 6-12 months. Instead, I intend to use this time to absorb as much knowledge as possible from Larissa, my business advisor.

As I grow more adept, I find myself needing Larissa’s help less frequently. I initially contacted her daily, then weekly, and now perhaps every second or third week. Also, I educate myself by reading blogs and how-to articles on AliDropship’s website. I meticulously track Facebook metrics over time on an Excel spreadsheet to monitor ad performance.

Naturally, I invest more in ads that yield the best results.

How has your life changed since you decided to buy an ecommerce business?


Owning this business has positively influenced all aspects of my life. A year ago, I was overstressed, overworked, and underpaid, stuck in a demanding job that barely compensated me. Ecommerce offered an escape, not a get-rich-quick scheme, but a chance to replace my salary. I achieved this goal within 1.5 months of opening the store.

Now, I have more time for my family and my health has noticeably improved. I can also focus on mending relationships that were neglected due to my previous demanding schedule. The business has rejuvenated my life in more ways than just providing income.

I feel like I’ve purchased not just a business, but a lifestyle — I’ve regained my life.
